The best painters are the ones who paint because they can't help
themselves. The best authors are the ones who can't not write. The
best musicians can't help playing - or composing, or whatever.
It seems to be common across widely disparate creative endeavours. I'm
not a bit surprised it manifests in programming too.
But, like you, I hadn't quite made the connection as clearly, nor
phrased it as elegantly....
