[Modele 33 Teletypes]
One thing to be really careful of, don't ever take
the cover off the
keyboard unless the keyboard is still installed in the sub-base. I would
Why not?
This warning does not, AFAIK, appear in any of the manuals. In fact said
manuals suggest working on each module seaprately. And I took my keyboard
apaert with it remvoed from the base pan with no problems. Parts did not
fly everywhere, for example.
I will warn against removign the pivot post screw of the tape punch too
early, though. It's possible for a number of springs and levers to fly
out if you do that. If you follow the method in the manual you will ahve
no problems.
also suggest that a complete strip down would be
really challenging and only
the really confident, knowledgeable and patient should attempt such a thing.
Fortuantely I didn't have such 'advvice' when I did mine. I found it very
simple, actually. The part I didn't understand first off was the linkages
to suprress carrage motion on control codes, as a result that part didn't
work first time when I reassembled it. Everything else did.
Even the experts tell me some bits are quite tricky
and not to dismantle
certain parts.
WHich parts are supposed to be tricky? As I said, I never ran into any,
and I did take _everything_ apart.
