If you think Goldendale is in the middle of nowhere,
you should try
Moses Lake. A friend and I just drove from there to Portland
yesterday, and went past Goldendale on highway 97. We wanted to
stop a little south of you to see Maryhill Stonehenge, but it was
too dark by the time we got there. I'll have to visit it on a
future trip.
When my wife and I need to travel the length of the Gorge from
Portland to wherever and have the time, rather than taking that rat
race called I-84, we'll take Washington 14 (Lewis and Clark) on the
north side. Usually pretty quiet with ample opportunities to stop
and take in the scenery. Maryhill Stonehenge is a spooky place.
We make it a point to go over the cable bridge between Pasco and
Kennewick--it was designed by a good friend of mine who still calls
it "his bridge".
