Not true, at least in the video industry.
When I worked for our city's 'Public Access' cable station, we had
numerous pieces of equipemnt left over from the 70s that had UHF
(PL-259) connectors used for baseband video. I rember them being on
monitors and UMatic decks that we had laying around (and they were
probably on a few other things I never got to see). I still have some
UHF->BNC adaptors laying around from when I used to play with that stuff.
