Actually, I've not seen that many C64s actually *around*, but when I needed
one in order to get an SX64 going again [1] it was a case of about 5 mins of
asking around (on places like freecycle), and I had more offers than I knew
what to do with. There certainly still seemed to be healthy numbers lurking in
attics etc.
[1] The "winner" was a machine with - IIRC - a German keyboard. It didn't
work
and the PSU had gone missing, so in terms of a system that was scavenged for
parts it was almost perfect)
