Want an old Beseler 4x5 enlarger? You would need to
use a short focal
length lens ( < 50mm) to do the frames one at a time. If the spacing is
consistent, you could probably rig up a carrier with clck detents for ease
of algining next frame.
Or go the full distance: create some sort of X-Y plane with stepper motor
control. Then build an automatic fiche feeder that takes the next fiche
off the stack, places it squarely on the X-Y plane, then have the computer
move the fiche in the proper grid pattern. The page is projected onto a
scanner and sampled. After scanning the whole page and storing the files,
the fiche is placed in the "done" pile and the next one processed.
This would not be difficult at all to produce. It would take some time to
devise, but once a working prototype is built, you could set it up and
walk away for a week while it does it's job.
I don't know if there would be a market for this sort of thing. If it can
be done cheaply enough and compete against the big, expensive scanners
then it might have some potential.
