There are lots of rules in English grammar/spelling that are
"unnecessary." That doesn't mean I don't cringe when I get a text
message that reads "hey u, wat r u up 2??" Nor does it mean I'm not
going to try to preserve some of these rules... Sure, I know what the
sender means, that doesn't mean I have to like the way it was said.
(Flash forward 50 years to when the English alphabet only has 12 letters...)
