If you were to build a device to scan a stationary piece of CD,
rather than trying to spin it, how much of the data could be
recovered from a disk with a hole drilled through it, or broken
in half?
If it just has a hole drilled through it, you should still be able to
read most of it on an ordinary CD reader, as long as the hole isn't
through the directory. Just don't spin it too fast (use a 1x drive).
