Thanks for the replies. I was just curious and don't have any PDP
experience. My google search on PDP 8/a returned a bunch of pictures that
looked like a straight 8 which is what threw me off.

No, the Straight-8 (or rather a PDP-8 without a model letter) is very
different from a PDP-8/a (with model letter "a"):
