Yes I would. At least one version of the wiring regualtions mentioned
this (I can't remeber if it's mandatory or not). And yes, I would reweire
any ES (or SES, etc) mains lampholder on anything I worked on that was
wired 'backwards'.
No I am not 'afraid' of the mains. I work with mains voltages most days.
However, I have a healthy respect for what it can do if misused. And I
try to make sure it doesn't get to do any such things :-)
