One thing that you learn the hard way is that BSD and the Linuces do not
necessarily support the same hardware. I have an example with the
Chinese USB to ethernet adapter. Conversely, the current round of Linux
kernels simply stopped supporting the VIA IDE/SATA chipset, abandoning
the old drivers as "buggy" and doing nothing about it(OpenBSD, however
supports it fine).
A name brand is no assurance of support; neither is a known chip inside
the device. I submit for your consideration, the Cisco AM10 Valet
USB-to WiFi. Supposedly takes the Ralink RTL2870 driver, but darned few
have met with any success.
Just some lessons that I've learned the hard way.
