Actually, it's quite common for large-ish
machinery to need
shipping bolts, clamps, etc to be fitted. I can think of a
lot of non-computer-related examples.
Lots of the older large disk drives had a restraining bolt that would lock
the heads into a retracted position when you were going to ship it. The CDC
9762 is one I am familiar with.
