I exchanged e-mail with someone who was thinking in that direction a
while ago. Probably time to dig that up.
That would never work on, for example, dave.g4ugm's IBM 3174s. :-(
I did qualify the suggestion with a hearty "..it's not universal". We all
tend to look at the problem through the filter of our own needs. In my
case, all the machines with creaky drives have accessible (and socketed)
WD chips. That's why a piggyback sounded tempting.
