Late in the game, CBM switched (no pun intended) to
switchers. I have a
C128 PSU that is a switcher. They were mounted in the same case, but
you can tell by the weight.
I don't know how new my C128 supply is, but it uses a swithcing regulator
for the +5V output. The input to that regulator comes from a
mains-frequency transformer, another secondary winding of wich provides
the 9V AC to the machine.
So, it's a swithcing regulator, but it's not what is often meant by a
switcher where you rectifiy the mains and then re-chop it (and thus have
no mains-frequency transformer). Did Commodore ever use that sort of
supply wit the C64/C128?
