Not at all weird. It all goes back to NEC and the 9800 series of PCs.
They started with 8" drives, moved to 5.25" and then to 3.5". In all
cases, the format (and rotational speed) didn't change. All are 360 RPM,
MFM HD on 77 tracks. That's why, for instance, 1.2MB 5.25" drives usually
(unless jumpered for dual-speed operation) spin at 360 RPM and not 300.
Makes a lot of sense--moreso than the bizarre litany of DOS formats.
