It's Billy's job to be ruthless. He's managing the finances of a very large
enterprise, and has responsibilities to his stockholders, employees, OEM
customers, end-users, and vendors.
I'd say he's successful because he and his staff, many of whom he picked out
personally, are extremely well-focused.

Gates was no small part of this.
How? Bill Gates just licenced MS-DOS to IBM for a cheaper price than DR
did CP/M. I can't see Bill Gates saying to IBM, ``If you don't charge

for CP/M than for MS-DOS, we'll walk.''
Bill Gates is ruthless but not
stupid.
