No, but unlike Fred, I've given up. After listening to BBC
I've not given up -- yet.... These terms have precise meanings, and
misusing them is likely to lead to confusion.
Similarly I get annoyed when people misuse the terms 'mass' and 'weight'
(in fact, last time I was asked for my weight, I gave it in newtons. If
they want to know my mass, they can ask for that!). And 'speed' .vs.
'veloctiy'.
announcers confuse "lie" and
"lay", "flout" and "flaunt", "flounder"
and "founder" and "who" and "whom", I've concluded that
it's not
worth the effort of being annoyed. Gone are the days of received
standard pronunciation and impeccable grammar.
Oh, alas the BBC is nothing like it was :-(
