Yes but manual loading tape drives on a 3033? The space saving system is
full of manual load tapes? I would have thought by that time all the drives
had autoload collars...
.. and did any other site have a mini reel with the tape wound on the
wrong way round. Great training aid for new operators...
I began to work with Mainframes seriously in 1987. Our PDC has five meters
until ceiling. Six air regulators of 2 by 2 meters where permanently
connected. In the middle, one IBM 4381 for development and one brand new
IBM 3090 with refrigeration based in Freon (CC12F2). Eight 3420 tape units
plus eight 3480 cartridge units. Some channel controllers around, and 12
3390 and 3380 disk cabinets. The last addition installed in 1992 when I
leave the operation area was and IBM 3495 tape library. Near the emergency
port, one IBM 3031 (retired) plus four IBM 3330 units.
I miss this unique moment in my life, I must confess.

And to think that at my current work we have even less than 30 mins on the
UPS.. (not my call nor area of influence)..
