That gives usable text (for some levels of use), whereas most color
composite monitors had too coarse a pitch.
I bought an MDA and used it with a modified (to get
the horizontal sync
up a bit) Four-Phase System IV monitor.
Anyone remember Four-Phase?
I didn't have the skill to modify a monitor, nor the funds to buy a good
one, so all of my early machines were B&W composite monitors, such as
CCTV.
