PC clones, particularly Taiwanese ones considerably altered that
picture. Since Apple made it an official policy to kill anything
resembling a clone, that alone could account for the difference in numbers.
It wasn't IBM that made the PC platform popular; it was those who
decided to clone and build on that platform.
