I wonder if it would be worth while for people to rotate books from
their collection through such a system / service. Presuming I have any
books that people would be interested in, I'd be happy to ship them
somewhere, pay a reasonable fee to have them scanned and shipped back to
me. All the while, the community benefiting from the scans.
