This really defined the 20'th century culture. Toy models of classic
systems that can be displayed on a glass tabletop for rich guests
have more worth than the scrap price of the real machine, and most real
machines were scrapped.
I weep.
It's sad and ridiculous that the originals were not preserved, but
there's nothing sick about this model set -- it was a contemporary sales
tool, and a remarkable artefact in its own right.
What /is/ offensive is the scrap-the-box-but-keep-the-name-plate thing.
That's a truly worthless form of trophyism.
