Just imagine
what would happen to your scope if it was dropped on a
corner of the face from a height of 6 feet or so. That's entirely
typical of the handling I see.
I've said it here before, and I'll say it again - don't ship UPS
unless your packaging job can withstand the parcel being hurled from a
car at 30mph because they have a conveyer that's 4 feet off the
ground, moving at that speed, and *stuff falls off the belt every
day*.
Airlines aren't much better ... I once drove to visit my Parents on
the east coast, and on the way back, I hit a spot of ice and rolled
by car - complete write-off. I had an Apple][ clone with me in a
suitcase, and it sailed past me and assisted in the rapid removal of
my windscreen. But it survived just fine... It did NOT survive Air
Canada getting me the rest of the way home. It arrived with damage
to the case and a broken crystal.
I'm pretty sure I know exactly how it happened - being a small airport,
I was able to watch as they loaded the plane. I saw the handler grab
my suitcase from the top luggage trolly, and swing it up over his head
to smack down HARD on a conveyor going into the plane...
Cheers,
