Intel's
most significant achievements were the EPROM and solid state memory.
Did they not advance semiconductor fab techniques quite a bit?
The only other thing I consider even more important
was the quartz
crystal used for timing, as an achievement. I'm not sure who to
credit for that one.
That is very much a pre-computing technology. You probably should not
count that, or you will need to count just about everything. The
invention of wire, for example.
