an 11/780 myself) As
you're likely aware, in some VAXen the ONLY three-phase component(s) is/are
the blowers.
I am suprised -- that they're 3-phase, not that nothing else in the CPU
is. I wouldn't have thoguth the power required for the blowers justified
a 3 phase motor, in fact I would have thought a number of smaller
single-phase blowers could be more reliable (If one phase fails, at least
there is some airflow through the machine, OK, the PSU would be shut down
if a phase fials (I would hope -- does the power controller do this?) but
having some airflow remainign wouldn';t hurt.
No, I don't have an 11/780 either, I don't have the space. So I hav the
other classic VAX that I would have a chance at being able to repair. --
the 11/730 (OK, an 11/725 would do as well).
