FireWire was never intended as a direct disk
interface. It playes more
in the leage of USB. (BTW: USB disks use SCSI commands too...)
I'll be sad to see FireWire go, because I think IEEE 1394 is superior in
nearly every respect to USB, but USB 3.0 will finally and totally eclipse
even FW800 in speed and today that's all that matters. You'll never see
S1600 or S3200 on anything but specialized pro machines, I'll wager.
