One of the more interesting tidbits I learned last night was that IBM
didn't get any orders for the S/360 until almost 3 months after the
announcement. They were getting nervous that they'd just sunk $5B into a
big dark hole.
Then the orders started pouring in at a volume twice than what they had
anticipated. They couldn't keep up with production for the first year or
so.
