Will someone direct me to a good binary file editor that will function on
legacy machines?
Waht do you mean by 'legacy machine'. Normally it would seem to mean a
machine/OS/etc that's no longer in common use . Which would seem to apply
to virtually everythig discussed on this list.
I could say something like 'just load the file into core on the PDP11 and
use the toggle switch panel to edit it' :-)
However, if, as I susepct, you mean older PCs, I would suggest a program
called BEAV (Binary Editor And Viewer). I've got it on this linux machine
(I asusme it can run under other unices as well), I am pretty sure I used
it under MS-DOS on a PC/XT. It may need 640K RAM, but I am pretty sure it
doens't need anything else out of the ordinary. I cna't rememebr the
license terms, but source is availalbe (in C).
