Yup, with the broadest chisel tip that I have. Cleanup with a bit
of solder wick. Works like a charm.
Must not be RoHS, then. That stuff is awful; it doesn't wick and it
always looks like a cold solder joint.
I'm right there with you; I hate that stuff. I have a nice stock of
REAL solder that should last me a good long time.
Anyone had any experience doing BGAs with hot air
jets? The
tutorials on SparkFun make it look at least doable, and the machines
are less than $200. Very tempting.
I haven't tried it, but I'm bound to before too long. I have a hot
air machine here. I also have a small X-ray machine for post-soldering
inspection of the inner balls, but haven't quite worked out the imaging
end of it.
