That sounds like Tony.... and I agree, I don't like cheap tools. Onve
It was me (or I think I actually said 'I am not rich enough to buy cheap
tools' which is much the same thing).
I was thinking you had said something similar in the past, but I couldn't
remember how you phrased it.

I'll buy something less expensive if I know I'm not going

Well, it's partly that the good tool will last longer (and I am likely
to be using it a lot), but also, as here, a cheap tool may well do an
inferior job and may damage the workpiece or some other part of the
system.
Or as here, a cheap crimp tool may well not produce a
reliable
connection. Now think of having to track down an intermittant fault that
turns out to be due to a bad contact in a cable and you'll see why I'd
rather buy a quality tool in th first place.
Modular plugs can be really finicky at times too. If the contacts aren't
pressed hard enough, the teeth won't make reliable contact with the wire,
but if they are pressed too hard, they will bite though the wire and into
the plastic shell. A lot of people don't understand why I'm so picky about
tooling when it comes to connectors, but this is one of the reasons.
