My understanding of Commode-Ore is that there is a chip within the cassette
interface that allows the pooter to talk to the cassette drive. Of course
Commodore (like many others, Apple comes to mind) was very good at keeping
most of their stuff proprietry in some (even small) way to dissuade the owners
from buying aftermarket.
