I thought that RTTY used Murray code (e.g. ASR-32) not ASCII.
Or am I horribly out of date?

Murray (?Baudot?) code is the classic, but ASCII has also been used since
the 1960s or so.

Hm, I got my first license in 1972, and five-level Baudot was still the
standard then, ISTR. Most folks were using things like Model 28s.
