I just replaced the same kind of paper dielectric incendiary caps in my TRS-80 Model II,
mere minutes ago! They haven't cooked off yet, but the cracked plastic on all of them
tells me that it would only be a matter of time before they absorbed enough moisture and
then arced over internally.
I should dig into my 5322 now to see if the film dielectric replacements that I already
have are suitable for its caps.
Conveniently, the Astec supplies in my various TRS-80 machines have all used the same
three caps (0.1, 0.22 and 0.01 uF safety class X), right down to the .01 class X that
I'm wondering whether it should be class Y, since it connects to ground. I've been
too lazy to trace the circuit to see if that one actually should be a class Y cap; I just
replaced it with an X2 cap with similar ratings as the original.
I have been looking for documentations, HMS, programs
etc. for either of
these systems to help in troubleshooting and repair. While the 5110 (type 1
and 2) and to a smaller extent the 5100 documentation is available as PFDs
the other two systems have been ignored for the most part. Any help is
appreciated in the form of actual physical product, digital info, or even
personal experiences.
I'm looking for the same stuff (that is, any documentation and software) for my 5322,
and I'll share whatever I can get!
I am also looking for the bottom half of the back
portion of a 5322 if
anyone is parting one out.
I'm missing that same cover on my machine. I wouldn't mind having one, but Ali
gets first dibs on any that turn up.
I'd probably also consider swapping my 5322 for a 5170 system with a Model F keyboard
and 5154 EGA display.
