"With Windoze, you need a multi-GHz multi-core
processor to key in a memo"
I forgot to add that we had one college vice president who would:
create a short memo (such as a room change for a meeting)
add letterhead, signature
print it on a color printer
SCAN IT!
send it as an attachment to an email
with subject: FYI
with body text: Read the attachment
The letterhead included a horizontal rule. We puzzled whether there was
ANY other easy way to get a couple of pixel stair step accross the page.
Meanwhile, IT was begging everybody to please stop "opening attachments
from people whom you don't trust". So, I
refused to read anything further
from the vice-president's office.
Previously, he (and the rest of the upper administration) had upgraded
their 386 machines to 486 due to the urgent need (based on existence of
something shinier), at a cost of well over a thousand dollars each. We
begged them to let our lab have the 386 machines to upgrade some of our
286s. They refused, because they were getting a trade-in of $150-$200 per
machine!
Oh, well. I'm retired now! Don't have to deal with them much any more.
And, I can get by just fine with this POS Dell laptop until I resume any
woprthwhile projects.
