As others have mentioned, the 68 pin connector was
pinned out funny.
However, the machine has two scsi busses, how about a 50 pin internal
cable attached to SCSI A and to your drive...does this cause
errors, too?
As I have a VS3100-76 running on the desk here, I thought I'd
chip in.
The external connector is an ordinary external connector,
although it may be of the opposite gender to that which
you were expecting.
The internal cable carries *two* SCSI buses and so is
not just an ordinary SCSI cable. The internal terminator
only terminates the internal SCSI (SCSI-A, IIRC). You
need a separate external terminator for the external bus.
