I will concede that Compaq was the first "practical" "large scale"
"commercial" compatible.
But it sure wasn't 100%, and I had owned several DOS machines
and written the first version of XenoCopy before Compaq released
their first model.
I used one of the first Compaqs (on loan from Compaq) when
I added the support for WRITING alien formats to XenoCopy.
I liked the machine a lot. (except the keyboard latches
had too short a throw and the handle was too soft)
Later, PC World used an earlier (1.0) version of XenoCopy
to demonstrate that NOTHING was completely compatible!
