At one time (long-discontinued), Maplin sold a kit for a
parallel-interfaced Ascii keyboard.
Mine was a Radio Shack kit - still have the manual
My recomendation would be to program a microcontroller to take a serial
keyboard (possibly a PC keyboard, although then you need to have a
scancode-> ascii table in the ROM) input and then output the parallel
format you require.
