I've been seeing some horrible failure rates on that first gen of 1 TB
(consumer) drives, now that it's about two years out. I had some
fail almost right away, and I RMA'd them, and those failed, too.
I am right that SMART doesn't pass-through if the drive is in an
external USB case?
