My irrational was a poke at some.
The FRAM would have the be level translated, however 74LVC245s come in
DIPs.

Why not use an FRAM (e.g. Cypress FM28V020) and completely dispense
with
the batteries? About $15 ea at Mouser. Looks like an SRAM and is 32K
x 8.
