If you search ebay for "DEC RK11-C Disk Controller", you'll find a listing
of a backplane of flipchip cards, but it's not like any RK11-C I have ever
seen. Am I right, this is a mis-labeled auction?

It looks like it could be an RK11-C.? Are you possibly thinking of the
RK11-D which fits in a BA11 chassis?

It seems to match fairly well with the module layout for the standard
(non-double-buffered) RK11-C at

(slot 1 on the right)
I can't recall mine to a high amount of detail, but that looks about right.
The ribbon cables are a bit out of place... perhaps they were just
stuffed into empty slots to keep them from being damaged.

Interesting. It looks to have about half of the modules my old RK8
controller had, I wonder how they managed to shrink it down for a pdp11.
Was the data-break interface for the 8 that complicated?

Yup, RK11-C, and it seems complete (modulo drive cables and terminators.) I have one
debugged and running in my '11/45, so I know it well.

pass-through connectors to support plugging in a pair of KM11s from the outside of the
rack for debug.
On nice thing about this controller is that it supports "Read/Write All" mode,
which lets you read or write the raw bitstream including block headers. This can be
useful for disk recovery if you have a corrupted block header, or for reading/writing
"foreign" disks (within limits). This is controlled by bit 9 in the CSR, which
is unimplemented on the later controllers.
