Various Alpha systems could boot their firmware updates via MOP (and the firmware files were available on DEC's FTP, so there should be no problem with someone giving you a copy). I think some of the later uVAX 3100 series (and maybe VS 4000-9x series) could MOP boot a firmware update. Again, for all of these possibilities, if you don't have the hardware, I don't imagine you can properly test things.
