In a way, you were right. I can't think of anybody I know that ever
directly paid for Microsoft BASIC until it became Quick BASIC or Visual
BASIC or some other perversion. The Compaq OEM version of GWBASIC (does
GW really stand for Gee Whiz?) was perhaps the most copied program of the
80's.
