Dear ClassicCmp community,
I am looking for a new home for a rather special piece of early German computer history:
An original ferrite core memory module from a Siemens DVA 2002, dating from approximately
1961.
The original accompanying label has survived with the module and identifies it as:
● Ferrite core memory from a DVA 2002
● Dating: circa 1961
● Memory capacity: 80 × 14 bits
● According to the contemporary description: approximately 840 characters
● The ferrite cores were threaded by hand
The module appears to be in very nice and largely original condition. The core matrices,
wiring and contacts are clearly visible, and the historical documentation accompanying it
has also survived.
The Siemens 2002 was one of the early transistorized computer systems produced in Germany
and represents an important part of early Siemens computing history.
There is also a personal connection to Siemens in my family: my father, Hans Sessler, was
the head of a Siemens data center. The module comes from this family context and our
connection to computing technology of that era.
I am currently parting with a few special objects from my family collection for personal
and financial reasons. However, with this particular piece, it is important to me that it
goes to someone who understands and appreciates what it is – ideally a collector of early
computers, a computer historian, a Siemens specialist, or simply a serious core-memory
enthusiast.
Therefore, I am inviting serious offers rather than setting a fixed price at this stage.
I am located in Germany. International sale and carefully packed shipping can be
discussed.
I would be happy to provide detailed high-resolution photographs of the front, back, core
matrices, connectors, labels and accompanying documentation to anyone seriously
interested.
I would also very much welcome any additional information from members who may be able to
identify the exact configuration or historical context of this particular Siemens DVA 2002
memory module.

Neat. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siemens_2002 has some information including a picture
of a core module.
I wonder if this is the same machine I encountered at TU Eindhoven (Holland) probably
around 1969. It was in the ME department, the controller for a precision plotter, I think
originally designed to draw print masters for maps and the like, by Contraves of
Switzerland.
