You don't have SCSI in the machine?
I have a MicroVAX 3100 with a ZuluSCSI emulator in it. Works great.
It can emulate several drives at the same time.

Years ago, when I started, I used a 40 MB MFM disk with a
Viking Systems controller. 40 MB doesn't go real far with a
VMS system.
