Hello,
I'm working on an emulator of the Tektronix 4010-series storage-tube
terminals. The one thing I can't find documented anywhere is the dot
pattern of the 4014's alphanumeric character set (a 7 x 9 dot matrix,
scanned column by column).
The character generator uses three ROMs:
- 4012 (service manual 070-1461-01): U465 = 156-0296-00, an Electronic
Arrays EA4001 (64 characters, 7 x 9, 9 outputs), and U479 =
156-0293-03, a Tektronix-coded ROM.
- 4014/4015 (service manual 070-2303-00): ROM A U305 = 156-0296-00,
ROM B U325 = 156-0293-03, and on the 4015 the APL ROM C U315 =
156-0294-03.
Any of these would help:
1. A dump of 156-0296-00 (EA4001) and 156-0293-03, and of 156-0294-03
if you have a 4013 or 4015. 4013/4015/4016 boards may carry the
same parts.
2. The Electronic Arrays data sheet or 1973-74 catalogue page for the
EA4001 -- it is a standard-pattern part, so its font may be printed
there.
3. A sharp close-up photo of a 4012/4014/4016 screen showing the full
character set in one of the two smaller character sizes, where the
beam wiggler does not fill in between the dots, so the dots can be
counted. (The photo in the 4014 User's Manual, Fig. 1-4, is a
halftone and does not resolve them.)
I'd be glad to pass whatever turns up back to bitsavers and TekWiki.
Thanks,
Serhii Bielov
