The Commodore 64 was sold in Canada in Sept. 1982. My brother-in-law bought
his in Toronto around that time. It was $595 cdn.($4,000 today!). A lot of
money back then. Well even today.

Does "first" mean first conceptual idea? (such as Compaq's creation myth
napkin)
first design?
first announcement?
first prototype?
first advertised?
first demo'ed at comdex or equivalent?
first offered for sale?
first actual sale?
first shipped?
first to catch up with waiting list?
first over the counter sale without pre-order?
first OTC within walking distance of MY house?
first to come down to my price range?
first to be sold as "R@RE! VALUABLE" on eBay?
first to make it to the "free" table at VCF?
first to have to be taken home from VCF free table, for lack of interest?
MANY meet several of those criteria, but none are the first in all criteria.

I am thinking a building my FIRST 21 bit computer,
but I don't expect to get $4K for it, even if
I name it CADET 64.
First may be impressive, but it does not bring home the Meat and
Potatoes. I say it is more luck, the Right Features,The Right time and
Right place. Look at the Apple II, One Box does ALL.
