Another type of "tri-Density" drive is the fairly common Teac FD-235J,
which can do 720K, 1.44M and 2.88M. I've got a couple installed in
older systems. They're all configured as media-sense, so the controller
doesn't have to do anything special, other than support the 1M transfer
rate.
One surprise that I had was with a Toshiba Infinia P1 desktop--it came
configured to support the 1.23M 360RPM mode in addition to the 720K and
1.44M 300 RPM modes.
