Let me add my "plus one" here! I appreciate both the original designs
and your faithful reproductions. Did you use a font for the cover
texts or recreate them by hand? I know DEC was making heavy use of
Avant Garde Bold during this period, including the alternate glyphs
here and there (I have a document in my near-term scan queue that
shows how NOT to use those glyphs!) IIRC, the corporate style guide
specifies AVGB and some form of Helvetica for advertising and
documentation use.
IBM's 1960s and 70s covers were fun, too, although a completely
different style. Mostly geometric designs that remind me of textbooks
from that era.
