When is Composite Video not composite video (was: Best LCDs for retrocomputing)

FWIW, the port I have tested a lot and can vouch for is the RGB / VGA.
Haven't done much with the composite.
But... my Sinclair QL with composite mod (NTSC) seems to work, and I
thought it used the same chips?
