Interesting - did you youse some modern technology
for
doing that?
Modern "special sauce" replacements from Dallas/Maxim/Analog/etc., plus a fast,
low-power SRAM, all packaged on a circuit board with Batten & Allen DIP leadframe
pins, like this:

(note that the Phantom RTC chip used in that is *not* what would be needed for Sun-style
NVRAMs)
